 Three JCRS community service opportunities
for Chanukah

Shalom, y'all!

With the Fall Holidays upon us, we are reminded that Chanukah can't be
far away!    Preparations for the annual JCRS Chanukah Card and Gift Program
are already in full swing.  Below are three opportunities for your religious
school or youth group to assist the JCRS in a Chanukah community service activity:

The JCRS Annual Mitzvah Day
will take place
at the Metairie JCC
on Sunday, November 1.

This is an all-day, community-wide event for wrapping thousands of small gifts for Jewish children who are in difficult circumstances all across the South. Religious school classes are welcome to participate in the morning, and youth groups typically follow in the afternoon. Families and community members are always welcome throughout the day. Gifts are pre-sorted by age and gender, and all wrapping materials are supplied. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.

PLEASE SEE FLYER FOR DETAILS.

The JCRS Chanukah Card Project  is in progress until Nov. 1.
Religious schools and youth groups across the South are invited to
contribute hand-made Chanukah cards to accompany the gifts.  Cards are also presented to isolated and institutionalized adults.

The JCRS reaches out every Chanukah to developmentally disabled
adults in residential care. This year we are planning to  provide gifts to
25 or more adults in ten  residential facilities across the South.  In each
institution, the chaplain or social worker provides guidelines
about the most appropriate gifts for each individual.  If you have a youth
group, school or individual class that would like to "adopt"  an institution
and contribute to the gifts that we send its Jewish residents (typically
between one and five), please let us know as soon as possible.  We welcome
your participation.

Best wishes to all from the JCRS for a happy and a healthy New Year.
G'mar Chatimah Tovah.
