The Jewish Children's Regional Service provides partial scholarships for summer camp tuition for Jewish children when a family is unable to pay the full costs.

In 2006, the JCRS provided Camp Scholarship funding for approximately 500 young Jewish children between the ages of 9 and 16.   The amount of aid provided to any one child or family varies in accordance with the circumstances of the child and/or his or her family.  Financial awards for camp assistance is typically lower if the family is able to obtain matching funds from other agencies and, conversely, the scholarship amount frequently may be higher when the JCRS is the sole source of aid.

Special consideration for Camp Scholarships is given to young people:

  1. Experiencing emotional, medical, and/or family problems;
  2. Who are from small Jewish communities;
  3. From single-parent homes;
  4. Who are from inter-faith marriages;
  5. With limited exposure to Judaism;
  6. From immigrant families;
  7. With a combination of one or more of the foregoing.

Please note that the JCRS Camp Committee gives preference for camp scholarship awards to new applicants and to applicants who have had three or less awards by the JCRS.

Program Specific Requirements

All Program applicants must meet the general Eligibility Requirements detailed on the Programs page.  In addition, in order to be considered, each applicant must also meet, comply with, or agree to comply with the following criteria:

  1. The completed application must be received no later than February 1 for the upcoming summer camp session;

  2. The camp for which your are applying must be a not-for-profit camp under Jewish auspices;

  3. Parents or guardians must provide family financial information -- financial information is maintained in private and is used by the JCRS solely to determine eligibility for a scholarship;

  4. Parents or guardians must provide a signed release form to permit the JCRS to contact other organizations within the local city or metro area which give camp assistance or scholarships -- this allows the JCRS to distribute the budget in a fair manner among as many families as possible.
